crossover moves -- much to the delight of Antworten

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Mexico rallied from a two-goal halftime deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with the United States in an exhibition match Wednesday night. Highly touted 18-year-old Julian Green made his senior U.S. debut, coming on in the 59th minute as a substitute at midfielder for Graham Zusi. Green is the product of German club Bayern Munichs developmental system who recently committed his international soccer future to the United States national team. Born in Tampa, Fla., but raised in Germany, Green has played for both German and U.S. national teams from the U-16 to U-19 levels. He was called in last year by U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, but declined the invitation to team camp at that time. Green appeared to his a shoulder in the 80th minute after he fell down, but was checked out quickly on the sideline and returned to the field. Mexico turned a dreadful first half into a tight game following captain Rafael Marquezs 49th-minute goal. Mexico became more active on the attack and threatened to tie on almost every run in the second half. The tying goal came in the 67th minute. Alan Pulido collected the rebound of Paul Aguilars shot that hit the post and kicking the ball into an exposed net. Both teams had chances to take the lead late in the match. Second-half substitute Eddie Johnson was ruled offside and his goal nullified in the 85th minute. Mexicos Miguel Angel Ponce took a shot in the 86th minute that barely went over the goal. Early on, the U.S. looked as if it might run away with another satisfying win over its biggest rival. It took the U.S. less than 15 minutes to get on the scoreboard first. Midfielder Michael Bradley outran Mexico midfielder Jesus Zavala to a corner kick that went far post from Zusi, and Bradley finished with one touch to give the Americans the early lead. The U.S. set the pace of the match early, making runs down the field several times and making Mexicos defence work and drawing corner kicks. The U.S. took a two-goal lead in the 28th minute with some effective passing. Clint Dempsey sent the ball out wide to Tony Beltran, a defender making just his third appearance for the national team. Beltran crossed to Bradey, who found Chris Wondolowski to his left near the goal, and Wondolowski slotted the ball into the net. The goal elicited chants of "Dos a Cero" from outnumbered U.S. fans, in reference to the final score of several previous U.S. wins over Mexico in the long history of the rivalry. Mexicos first goal came off a corner kick from Marco Fabian to Marquez, who found space in the box for an on-target header. Four minutes later, Marquez got free for another header that Rimando had to tip over the top of the goal. The match served a pre-World Cup tuneup for both teams as they evaluate players to be on their respective World Cup rosters. Mexico won for the first time in four matches in the United States this year. Mexico previously tied Denmark 1-1 in Glendale, Ariz. in January then played to a scoreless draw against Peru in San Francisco in April and to a 2-2 tie with Nigeria at Houston in May. Peralta scored in the 28th minute and again in the 45th. The Mexicans received an own goal in the 10th minute to start the scoring, set up by a play in front by Peralta when Ivory Coast defender Arthur Boka inadvertently put Peraltas shot past his own goalie, Boubacar Barry. Angel Reyna capped the scoring with a goal in the final minute of regulation for Mexico. Ivory Coast could not muster much offence and got its goal off a penalty kick from Didier Drogba in the 61st. Mexico had the first good scoring opportunity just 1:45 into the game when Giovani Dos Santos hard shot sailed just wide right of the goal. Three minutes later, Dos Santos had another good shot, but Barry punched it away with both fists. In the 10th minute, Ivory Coast made the first of its many first-half mistakes. Peralta made a fine move between two defenders, then put a shot toward goal that Boka put diirectly into his own net with his right foot, giving Mexico the lead for good.dddddddddddd In the 28th, Peralta was alert in capitalizing on a bad back pass from Ivory Coast midfielder Jean-Jaques Gosso, knocking the ball past Barry from eight yards out to push the lead to 2-0. Ivory Coasts lone chance to score in the first half came in the 41st when Mathis Bolly went past three Mexican defenders to put a left-footed shot toward the goal, but Mexican goalie Jesus Corona made a fine save. Then Peralta put a capper on his brilliant first half, successfully trailing the play before taking a nice crossing pass from Dos Santos and heading it home with just 12 seconds remaining in the half. In the second half, Mexico kept up the pressure and nearly had a fourth goal. Reyna made a series of sensational crossover moves -- much to the delight of the partisan Mexican crowd of 35, 671 -- faking his way past two defenders before firing a shot into the net that was waived off due to offsides. In the 61st minute, Drogba took a direct free kick that was ruled a hand ball in the penalty box. Drogba then took the subsequent penalty kick and fired it past Corona for Ivory Coasts goal. Reyna made another crisp move in the 89th, managing to get past two defenders and score the final goal of the match. ' ' '
